The knowledge of the different kinds of fears and their origin can help to handle them in the right way; the same applies to the knowledge of one's own thoughts, which will enhance or repel fear.
PTSD and Trauma
Phobias are intense fear experienced when faced with certain situations or circumstances which elude rationality, the intellect, and creep 'like an alien force' - as the philosopher Kirkegaard coined it - over a person. Often these are clearly defined fears of otherwise not especially anxious but quite courageous, intelligent and resolute individuals. These situational anxieties can have such profound effects at certain times that those affected are virtually paralysed and severely curtailed in their actions.
What people are afraid of
Phobias appear in various forms: Especially well known is the fear of flying, aviophobia, which in the one person consists rather of a fear of heights and in another has more of the fear of closed spaces, claustrophobia, a phobia I know personally all too well. Common to both is the fear of being at the mercy of a situation over which one can have no control. Although driving a car is statistically seen as far more dangerous than flying, people with a fear of flying usually have no problem getting behind the steering wheel! And as long as someone is not forced to take a flight, he or she can live almost undisturbed with this fear for years.
Claustrophobia, the fear of enclosure and confinement, manifests in lifts and other closed spaces. A patient bravely bore a cancer illness, but at the subsequent check ups she broke out in loud sobs every time she went through the tube of the computer tomography scanner - being shut in aroused in her miserable feelings, which she could not get a grip on neither with her mind nor with her will.
Fear of fire can be kept in check by lighting no open fire in the home, refraining from candle light and avoiding any kind of bonfire as well as fireworks. One can also avoid fear of water by foregoing cruises and swimming. It is the same with fear of heights, acrophobia, which one can easily avoid in everyday life since mountain hikes or entering a lift in skyscrapers is not necessarily part of the usual daily routine! It is more difficult when the occupation demands just such experiences - as happened to the manager who had only three months to work on his fear of flying and of heights before attending an annual conference in New York.
School phobia and exam nerves, well known among students, also occur in adulthood and can bring about a situation in which any further education that requires a final examination is avoided at all costs for the whole working life.
The widespread fear of spiders arachnophobia, intervenes more clearly in everyday life. Although those effected are well aware that they face no serious thread from domestic spiders, they nevertheless panic at the appearance of an unexpected spider and are therefore inclined upon entering a room first to quickly scan in seconds all corners and walls as a precaution. Any creature identified will be monitored constantly, or those afraid of spiders will not enter the room at all.
A dog phobia can bring about the situation that someone does not dare for years to take a walk or hike alone, because behind every bend of the road could be an unpredictable dog not held on the leash. Usually even sounds like the rattling of a leash can cause the familiar panic reaction, as in the case of a young lawyer who impressively described how she did not dare to accept her dream job because the boss had the habit of bringing his aged Alsatian dog to work.
Also emetophobia, the fear of vomiting, can seriously constrain a person, since in this phobia the daily intake of food is linked with a constant apprehensive self-observation, turning participation in company meals or other festivities into an ordeal! The danger can also not completely ruled out that others in the vicinity must vomit, which especially in educational jobs can lead to a continually tense observation of the entrusted children and young people.

The fear of thunder and lighting ceraunophobia, troubles sufferers mainly in the summer time and leads to a repeated daily study of the weather forecast. A manager had to interrupt an urgent meeting because she could no longer hide her trembling in the face of an approaching thunderstorm!
Agoraphobia, a fear of large spaces or crowds, which is one of the most common phobias, is likewise not easy to avoid, because crowds are part of everyday life, whether on the way to work, on the public transport, at events or simply during an ordinary shopping.
What intervenes especially profoundly in everyday life is social phobia, the fear of people and their unpredictability. Sufferers experience a deep-seated fear of being shown up, treated callously or judged by other people. This phobia triggers unbearable stress in sufferers as soon as they make any form of public appearance: giving lectures, voicing opinions in meetings or merely taking part in courses - all this can call forth sudden harrowing feelings even with the best preparation. A social phobia can already in childhood lead to isolation and if it persists into adolescence to increased risk of suicide. Like agoraphobia it is often linked with the perception that in an emergency, no one would come to rescue.
Anxieties follow their own logic
Phobias sometimes trigger a lack of understanding or even elicit a wry smile in those unaffected, but a phobia has mostly a serious, vitally experienced core and presents sufferers with attacks strong enough to absolutely match a panic attack linked with the fear of death. They impressively show: fears elude reason! Rather, they are the expression of soul's own hidden logic, exactly as this also happens to dream images.
Most adults with a phobia cannot understand themselves and feel deeply ashamed, since their intellect quite grasps the unrealistic core of their phobia. That is why sometimes statistics are kept for their own justification. So one can learn a lot of interesting things from people with a phobia: for instance, which breeds of dogs pose the greatest danger, which seats on an airplane offer the best survival chances in a crash or which mountain region have had the most climbing accidents! This also makes it clear how much time, thought and vital energy is spent in coping with a phobia in everyday life.
Understanding the causes of phobias
Fears need to be understood and resolved from their origin. Every excessive fear as well as every phobia has its individual history; it has been brought to life by certain experiences. These experiences lie mostly in the subconscious and cannot be accessed in memory - the fear is, so to speak, in place of the missing memory.
If we assume that a person does not merely live this current life, but bears within him experiences from many former lives, we get an idea that many fears, can have an origin that lies far back. It is not unusual that in particular fears of the forces of nature or of other people have their origin in such ancient events, and also in former death experiences.
There is however no need for a reincarnation therapy for their resolution: the knowledge that excessive concentration of fear always harbour a history of their own, thus must be neither illogical nor shameful, is quite sufficient as the first step towards healing. Although I am myself a Time Line Therapist and if appropriate deal and dealt with traumas happening in another life, in order to resolve your phobia most of the time a reincarnation therapy is not necessary.
This is what happened to the patient with a fear of undergoing the computer tomography procedure. During the treatment session of her acute fears images from another time surfaced spontaneously, something that happens frequently during an Energy body therapy session, inclusive Healing Magnetism, EFT etc. She experienced herself trapped alive in a coffin, and could even remember the reasons for this terrible situation: her mistress has died, but she is alive and is being shoved into the buried chamber to be with her dead mistress. However, her tears and lamentation remain unheard. "In Egypt" comes to her mind still!
This patient had never been concerned with reincarnation or other spiritual subjects and could not really imagine that she was the one who had once experienced this in ancient time. Nevertheless, the realisation dawned on her with these striking images that her extreme fear fits absolutely with the fear of death in a burial chamber, but no with a medical-technological investigation, which indeed serves to keep her alive!
Fascinated and with an inkling of the larger connections, she began to study the ancient cultures of Egypt and at the same time her fear of the computer tomograph shrank to a tolerable level.
Other phobias are rooted in the current life, as the young lawyer was able to realise: On walks and hikes during her childhood, her father often threatened her and her siblings with a nasty dog wherever they got too boisterous. It took just five sessions until the patient was strolling up and down the sidewalk with the therapist's dog. Although it did appear as it was rather the dog taking her on a walk, yet the experience was enough for her to realise that happiness can quickly ensue in the company of a tail wagging dog!
In my Phobia reduction sessions I use foremost Therapeutic Magnetism, but also can at times integrate into the treatment sessions EFT, Logotherapy (Psychotherapy), Emotional Transformation Technique, NLP, Reimprinting and Time Line Therapy as well as other methods I am proficient with. It can be helpful in dealing with fear to think of one's phobias with understanding and some humour as a kind of spectre - a spectre that formed in a moment of horror, even if this moment can no longer be remembered. A friendly glance at this little spectre on one's side can help to uncover the interesting things this being, formed from thoughts and emotions, can explain of its own biography, because a phobia can be understood as a concentrate of experience stored in the soul.
The main lesson from this, which can contribute to a useful first step towards dissociation, should be the realisation: "I guess I was once in grave danger! But now when I look around me, I can see that the danger no longer exists to the same extent.
At that time I was dependent, vulnerable and small. Today I am big, can do something, can move and would know how to defend myself, I would resist or get help!"
Strengthening ideas
No matter how painful your feelings are, you are not the fear, you only have it! And these are only feelings!
The essence of the human being, however, the innermost perception, has no causal involvement in such fantasies and feelings of fear. This innermost perception as an expression of spiritual activity is another quality of experience and is not identical with the changing feelings and moods. It is necessary to listen to this innermost aspect, from here new answers to life can emerge, which can then be formed by the intellect, into constructive, strengthening conceptions and utterances that are capable and abruptly dispelling fear phantoms. Thus, for example:
A great support for this is a basic advice given in the work "In the Light of Truth" by Abd-ru-shin:
"You who often seek so strenuously to find the right way, why do you make it so hard for yourselves? In all simplicity picture yourselves how the pure Power of the Creator flows through you, and how you guide it with your thoughts in a good or in an evil direction. There you have it all, without trouble and without racking your brain!
"Consider that it lies with your simple intuitive perceiving and thinking whether this mighty Power will evoke good or evil. What a furthering or destructive power is thus given to you!" (Lecture "Responsibility")
Replacing fear
Fear and its ethereal manifestation, the phantoms, are thus formed by the human being with the same power currents pulsating through Creation as courage, vigour, joyful conviction and cheerful disposition! However, the latter obtain additionally effective support from the higher spiritual spheres, where the appropriate helpers stand ready for all upbuilding in Creation. This is the basis of the secret that a trustful, courageous conviction can disperse whole groups of fear phantoms! It is therefore not impossible, in fact even often easier than one might think, to get rid of a fear that originated in an earlier phase in our existence and make room of a new courage to face life!
